I used to feel that golf was primarily a mental game; give a monkey a set of clubs, teach him the basics of the swing and gradually – like the rest of us he will get better. As far as equipment goes, one stick is as good as the other. It ain’t the arrow; it’s the Indian – if you catch my drift.
Recently my feelings have changed. I have graduated from the oversized “sweet spot as big as a toaster” set of clubs to a set that are more “player-friendly” to a set of forged cavity backed irons. Needless to say, I was seeing improvement in my game along the way and have gone from a 19 handicap a year and a half ago, down to an 8 or 12 – depending upon how much we are playing for and how badly I need the cash. Now it is time to walk in the same shoes – OK, swing the same clubs – as some of the big boys.
I have been waiting impatiently for my new Miura K Grind Wedge to get here. I haven’t decided on which set of Miura irons to start with – they seem to make something for every semi-decent player out there – but I have decided on a new sand wedge.
