Biion Footwear

There’s a new golf footwear company on the horizon that you can’t help but take notice of – once you see their colors and designs you’ll know what I mean. The name of the company is Biion – a word whose roots can be tied to the Greek word Bios, meaning life and believe me when I say, these shoes will add life to any foursome. The company is headquartered in Quebec and is just starting to set up distribution in the US.

There are several features that make Biion different. The first thing you notice when you pick of a pair is that they are not leather, although many look like it. Biion golf shoes are made of EVA (Ethylene-Vinyl Acetate), a material that is very light and flexible and seems to mold itself to your foot, providing a snug fit every time. EVA’s nano-molecular structure also provides an effect of smoothness which provides a canvas on which to create a myriad of designs.

Something else you get with Biion golf footwear is unexpected comfort. This is due largely to the dual-density midsole and a shock-absorbent insole. The insole has these innovative massage nodes that actually make your feet feel good as you wear them. You’ll also find that the weightlessness of the shoe adds to your comfort, especially when walking the course.

All Biion shoes are designed with anti-microbial composites to help reduce foot odor. You’ll also note that these shoes are well ventilated. The holes are actually -part of the Oxford Brogue design and fit in nicely with the design of the shoe. The snug fit provided by the EVA eliminates the need for laces and for that matter, socks. Biions are 100% washable and dry in seconds.

As far as keeping you connected to the ground throughout the golf swing, Biion’s spikeless Hextra-grip Technology does a great job. I found that in dry conditions, these shoes performed as well as any spikeless shoe in my collection. In wet conditions, they did not perform as well and I slipped coming through the ball a couple of times.

The key to getting a good, snug fit from your Biion shoes is to order them a size smaller than what you would normally wear. They do stretch a bit and, if you heed this advice, your Biions will give you a good, snug fit. Just in case you don’t get it right the first time, Biion offers free exchanges to help you get the correct size – all you pay is the return shipping. Sizing – and styles – are unisex; a Men’s 6 is a Women’s size 8, etc.

Perhaps the biggest difference between Biion and any other footwear on the market is the color and design selection.  There are 5 categories of Biions – Classics, Saddles, Brights, Wingtips, and Patterns. Classics are much as you’d expect – Oxford Brogues in solid colors and saddles. Pretty much run of the mill colors except for the Pink and Black. Saddles offer a wide variety of colors – Royal Blue, Yellow and Orange. Brights are just that – neon greens and oranges – with ultra-bright midsoles. But what really sets Biion apart from all other shoe companies are the Wingtips and Patterns in color combinations you don’t expect from a golf shoe company. White, Silver and Blue, Neon Green and Black and Orange Brown and Navy just to name a few. Patterns are on the verge of outrageous – Camo with a bright orange midsole, Argyle and Leopard are just a few you’ll find on their website.

Biion seems to be on to something with these EVA shoes; who knows, they could just make leather obsolete. When you throw in fact that they massage your feet as you walk and that they are extremely comfortable, you too may realize that they are a viable alternative to your regular old golf shoes.

Biion also makes shoes for boating and life in general. So, if you’re the kind of person who lives on the edge and likes to break away from the masses, you need to give Biion a look. For more information, visit their website at www.biionfootwear.com.
