Carnoustie Sportswear – Comfort Meets Sophistication

carnoustie1 Just in case you’re not familiar with the brand, Carnoustie has been making high quality men’s golf apparel for over 20 years. Their commitment to the finest fabrics and high quality workmanship is second to none. They are definitely on the high end of the spectrum when it comes to price, but in this you-get-what-you-pay-for society we live in, they are worth every penny. What I’m saying is, that properly cared for, you can easily get 7-10 years out of each garment.

Ever since they entered the market, Carnoustie has worked hard to find fabrics and styles that can be worn year-round, which only adds to their value. Several years ago, the company introduced Cotton Suede to the industry, and it has since become an industry standard for quality and design. In its quest for year-round fabrics, Carnoustie has developed a much lighter, unbrushed cotton fabric in the perfect year-round weight. This new Lightweight Cotton Interlock Collection (LCIC as it is known in fashion circles), is available in a quarter zip long sleeve pullover or a quarter zip or full zip vest. These versatile pieces feature flat knit tipping along the zipper. As long sleeve pullovers go, this one is extremely breathable; a full practice session before a round did not produce and noticeable stains and the sizing is ample enough to complete a full golf swing. I’m confident even Charles Barkley would find comfort in this garment! The Quarter Zip Pullover is available for men in sizes S-XXL and in four colors: Emerald, Grape, Heather and Midnight. The retail price is $107 but it is currently available on their website for 50% off. Now that’s a deal!

carnoustie5carnoustie6When Carnoustie debuted their new performance/tech fabric a couple of years ago, their goal was to create a fabric that would let them compete with other such apparel companies while, at the same time, keeping the look sophisticated, appealing, but most of all wearable. In 2016, they’ve upped the ante, enhancing the performance of the fabric without compromising on the look. Their polyester/lycra blended performance knit polo separates itself from the competition by providing the most comfortable performance fabric available on the market and the look speaks sophistication.

Thus is particularly evident in the Performance Printed Plaid Polo, which has proved to be a very popular item. This polo features a self-collar and traditional four-button placket, giving it a classic look. The 88% polyester/12% Spandex fabric has an incredible sheen and silky feel to it while at the same time providing golfers with supreme anti-microbial and moisture wicking capabilities as well as a high level of protection against the sun’s harmful rays. The small acarnoustie2mount of Spandex adds that little bit of stretch you may need to get through your swing and get that extra yardage of the tee on number 18. The Performance Printed Plaid Polo is available in sizes S-XXL and in three plaid color combinations. Retail price is $95.

Living in Florida, I’m not one to wear long pants on the golf course unless it is absolutely necessary and, as my blood carnoustie4carnoustie3thins out from living here so long, anything below 70 degrees is considered long pants weather. That being said, Carnoustie’s Palmer Trousers are probably the nicest and most comfortable trousers I have ever worn – on or off the golf course. They are made from the finest Super 120’s Italian wool and feature a flat front with a two-button closure. The slanted front pockets make getting tees and balls out easy and the welted back pockets will accommodate even the largest of scorecards. This Palmer Trousers come in waist sizes 32-42 and come unhemmed, so length isn’t an issue. They are available in either a subtle Heather Grey or Anthracite color/pattern. Retail price is $325. The Palmer Trousers are perfect for both the office or the golf course, so if you plan on skipping out of work early to get a round in, you won’t need a change of clothes!

Carnoustie continues to make inroads when it comes to introducing a ladies’ line of golf apparel. We had the carnoustie7opportunity to take a look at the Women’s Stretch Stripe Polo, which features a ¾ sleeve, self-collar and open placket. The 95% cotton/5% Spandex fabric has that extra bit of give to it and the stripe pattern creates a rather sporty look. For a predominantly cotton polo, it is surprisingly lightweight. The Women’s Stretch Stripe Polo is available in sizes XS-XL and in five brilliant colors: Gray, Pacific, Watermelon, White and Navy). Retail price is $87.

Another Ladies’ polo that we saw was the Self-Collar Polo, made from 100% Pima cotton. This polo provides a classic fit and also features a ¾ sleeve with self-collar and open placket. It is lightweight and like all Pima cotton garments has a luxurious, soft feel.

All Carnoustie products – with the exception of the dry clean only Palmer Trousers – are extremely easy to care for. Simply hand or machine wash on a gentle cycle with cold water and then either line or flat dry. Never put them in the dryer and in the event ironing is necessary, use a cool iron. If time is an issue, there is always the dry cleaner.
