columbia-sportswear1For as long as I can remember, Columbia Sportswear has been a player in the outdoor apparel industry. Their gear is well known in hunting, fishing and outdoor circles; it seemed only a matter of time before they entered the golf apparel arena.

And so it was that last January, at the PGA Show in Orlando Florida, Columbia Sports had a booth and threw their golf hat into the ring by introducing a line of Spring Golf apparel. And from all indications, it didn’t disappoint.

Their qualitcolumbia-sportswear2y and innovation shows through with their Fall 2016 golf apparel collection. Not only does the line showcase most of Columbia’s patented technologies, they’ve already been able to attract a stable full of brand ambassadors including Ryan Palmer, Boo Weekley and Robert Garrigus. The Golfin’ Guy had the opportunity to review a few pieces from their new collection: The Omni-Freeze Snap Placket Polo, and Omni-Wick Alignment Polo, and the Omni-Wick Tee Up and Stableford Shorts.

columbia-sportswear3Both polo shirts feature Omni-Shade technology, which provides a UPF 30+ protection for the sun’s damaging rays and Omni-Wick technology that wicks away moisture while you play, helping you stay calm, cool and collected, although columbia-sportswear5that last part’s up to you. The Omni-Freeze Snap Placket Polo also features Omni-Freeze Zero technology which is designed to lower the polo’s overall temperature when it senses perspiration, thus keeping you cool as you make your way around the course. The Snap Placket Polo features a self-collar and a three snap “no sew” placket. There’s a Columbia logo on the left sleeve to identify the brand. The Omni-Freeze Snap Placket Polo is available in sizes M- 2XL and in 6 brilliant colors: Black, Cantaloupe, Chartreuse, Red Hibiscus, Sail Blue and White. Retail price is $65.00.

The Omni-Wick Alignment Polo is also chalk full of technology and the 92% Polyester/8% Spandex fabric stays with you through your entire golf swing. It too features a self-collar with sewn-in collar stays and 3-button “no sew” placket with laser cut button holes. This technology built into this polo is designed to keep you cool and protected from the sun. The Omni-Wick Alignment Polo is available in sizes M – 2XL and in 3 Colors: Night Tide Blue, Sail Blue and Sea Ice. Retail Price is $75.00.

For your bottom half, Columbia’s Omni-Wick Tee Up Shorts are engineered with a 64% Nylon/30% Polyester/6% Spandex fabric that moves with you through every phase of your golf swing or whatever you’re doing. No pinching or binding. Columbia’s Omni-Wick technology wicks sweat away from the skin for quick evaporation. The Tee Up Shorts feature a flat front with side seam pockets and back welt pockets. The lightweight fabric keeps you cool on the course and ready for anything Mother Nature can throw at you. The Omni-Wick Tee Up Shorts are available in sizes 30 – 40 and in 3 colors: Blue, Charcoal and Green. Retail price is $79.00.

The Omni-Wick Stableford Shorts have the same features and attributes as the Tee Up Shorts with the primary difference being the columbia-sportswear4fabric. The Stableford Shorts are made from a 96% Polyester/$5 Spandex fabric with plenty of stretch, making them the perfect go-to short for just about every occasion. The 10” inseam provides ample coverage from the sun. The Stableford Shorts are available in sizes 30 – 40 and in four colors: Forged Iron, Black, White and Khaki. Retail price is $60.

With a recognizable group of tour players wearing their gear, watch for Columbia to move up the golf apparel popularity scale rather quickly. For more information or to order some of Columbia’s new golf apparel, visit their website at www.columbia.com.
