The Tennessee PGA’s Crossville Team Championship was held earlier this week, on May 11th and 12th, at Lake Tansi Golf Course, and several local pros and amateurs fared well.

The team of Fairfield Glade PGA pros Adam Forgey and Logan Stewart, along with amateurs Rex Dale and Kyle Jackman, finished in a tie for second. The team of Jackson National Golf Club pro Mike Vance and Williams Creek’s Lee Whitehead, along with amateurs Jeff Brasfield and John Slayton, edged out Forgey’s team by one stroke to claim the title.

The team featuring Kelvin Bugin from Bear Trace at Cumberland Mountain and local amateur Tracy Graham finished in a tie for 4th, while Fairfield Glade’s Jeff Houston and Cody King, along with their amateur partners, finished in a tie for sixth.

Forgey had a great tournament, including “Low Pro” on both days (67); he also posted an eagle on the par-5, 18th hole, when he knocked it on the green in two and sank a 25-foot putt. His team also had the most “Par Breakers,” a stat charted by the Tennessee PGA, with 21 birdies and Forgey’s eagle.

Playing conditions at Lake Tansi were ideal, and Superintendent Todd Matthews had the greens rolling firm and fast. Several players I spoke with commented on the superior conditioning of the course and how green it is, regardless of the time of year. The only negative feedback was that there was too much sand in the bunkers, leading to buried lies, but, as Head Golf Pro Gavin Darbyshire says, “You’re not supposed to be in the bunkers!”
