It’s estimated that golfers bend down 80 times or more during a round of golf. For golfers with pain, that is far too many. A new multi-purpose putter grip has recently been introduced that can help them avoid unnecessary pain caused by bending over on the green. Featuring one-of-a-kind embedded tools, the GameSaver enables players with knee, hip and back discomfort to complete the following repetitive actions, all from a standing position:
- Fix the ball mark
- Place the ball marker
- Pick up the ball
- Replace the ball at the ball marker
- Pick up the ball marker
- Get the ball out of the cup
According to the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke, approximately 80 percent of adults experience low back pain at some point in their lifetimes, with age being a primary risk factor. The first attack of low back pain can occur as early as age 30. GameSaver was designed to help golfers who experience back pain, whether it’s from injury or the natural aging process, stay in the game and enjoy it longer.
“Golf is one of the great ways you can age and still be active. Studies have found it can even help you live longer. It’s unfortunate people are giving it up because of little logistical things like bending down to pick up a ball,” said Todd Walton, a physical therapist and certified strength and conditioning specialist at Walton Physical Therapy and Sports Medicine in Portland, Ore. “If pain is preventing a golfer from playing, this grip is going to be extremely beneficial. It’s a great way to get those who would otherwise not be able to play back on the golf course.”
The tools are built into the top of a medium oversize grip featuring a smooth texture and flat front. The grip houses a divot repair tool that slides out of the top of the grip, a ball mark holder and slot to place the marker on the green, and a magnetic cap to pick it up. A spring-loaded claw works with the divot tool to pick up and replace the ball.
“Pain is a fact of life for many golfers and can be the reason they stop playing the game they love because as far as we can tell, nothing’s been introduced to help them avoid the harmful motions of bending down on the green,” said Mike Jolley, GameSaver’s founder. “We developed GameSaver not as a gadget, but as a tool to help golfers feel less pain, play longer and enjoy their round. The beauty is the hidden tools live in the grip and are always there when you need them and tucked away when you don’t.”
The grip is firm in the hand for a precise feel, without sacrificing comfort. The extra length and contoured taper facilitate ideal hand position and the durable silicone construction promotes long-playing life. GameSaver is designed to be easy to use with each task done in a quick, fluid motion.
Installation can be completed at home or with a professional. GameSaver costs $99.95 and can be purchased at golfgamesaver.com.
