PING Glide 2.0 Wedge Review

Get Through the Turf Effortlessly

2980

This year, PING has introduced its new line of wedges, the Glide 2.0. The new sharper edged grooves in the face of the club are spaced closer together to increase friction, which creates up to an additional 400 rpm more spin for better trajectory control and precise distance on both full swings and finesse shots. You’ll notice it the first time to hit this wedge into the green.

The clubheads are crafted from soft 431 SS steel and the enhanced sole grinds and lead edges have been carefully crafted for exceptional surface interaction and versatility, allowing the club to glide through the turf and sand and enable creativity in shot making.

PING has also installed their Dyla-Wedge Grip on the Glide 2.0 wedges. With arrows every quarter inch down the grip, getting to know your precise distance couldn’t be easier. A reduced taper also enhances shot making capabilities.

To find the model of Glide 2.0 wedge that best fits your game, you’ll need to choose the right sole grind; luckily, there are only four of them. Your correct sole grind is determined by several criteria: attack angle, divot depth and the type of conditions you most often play in. Obviously, Scotland would be different than Arizona. These are questions that are posed to you as you go through the nFlight Web fitting system on the PING website www.ping.com/fitting/nflightweb.aspx

Here’s a quick primer on the four grind options:

SS Grind – An all-purpose mid-bounce sole with heel and trail edge relief to create versatility on touch shots around the green. Ideal for moderate attack angles and divots. The SS Grind fits most golfers.

WS Grind – Full-sole design that provides turf security for players with a steep angle of attack. The reduced camber and added width prevent the sole from skipping into the ball.

TS Grind – based on the Tour-proven half-moon grind, the TS grind facilitates shot making and precision from even the most difficult lies. The heel relief allows shots to be executed with an open face to difficult pins or from firm lies without fear of the lead edge sitting too high.

ES Grind – Inspired by PING’s legendary Eye 2-sole, this design provides the ultimate in bunker performance, resulting from the classic dish profile along with the tapered hosel. A refined lead edge upgrades all-around performance.

PING has certainly upped its game when it comes to wedges. Not only will the Glide wedges look good in your bag, the Hydropearl finish will also help you get through the turf and sand with little effort. Now you can swing confidently from those bad lies and sand traps knowing that the technology in these wedges will be seen on your scorecard.

To find out which Glide 2.0 wedge best fits your game, go to the PING website, www.PING.com, click on fitting and go through their online fitting system. I found it to be very accurate for every club in the bag.
