Puma Faas Lite Golf Shoe – A New Entry Into The Minimalist Market

puma1Well, you knew it wouldn’t be long until all of the major golf footwear companies (and yes, I do include Puma as one of them) were bit with the minimalist bug. FootJoy has its M Project, Adidas has the Adizero. And now Puma is introducing the Faas Lite, touted as the lightest shoe in golf. The Faas Lite features leather upper and the Faas Lite Mesh has (you guessed it) a mesh upper.

Like most of the minimalist shoes on the market, The Puma Faas Lite golf shoe was inspired by minimalist running, All minimalist shoes offer zero heel-to-toe drop (meaning the heal and sole always remain at the same height) much like a foot would stand if wearing no shoe. This gives runners (and now golfers) a barefoot feeling and allows for a more natural stride and posture during the swing.

There are several key elements that go into the Puma Faas Lite shoe; although lightweight, the shoe is very sturdy. Not only is it lightweight, it is quite flexible as well and will keep your feet dry and comfortable. So dry in fact that the Faas Lite golf shoe comes with a 1-year waterproof warranty.

The lightweight uppers provide incredible comfort and support. They are made from waterproof microfiber leather and are equipped with StormCELL to keep your feet protected from the elements. StormCELL’s highly functional material delivers unmatched protection through extremely durable waterproofing, taped seams and high breathability shielding you from nature’s forces.

The OrthoLite® sockliner provides long lasting comfort and enhanced fit; you’ll be tempted to wear these shoes for more than just golf. Puma also uses a proprietary product. FaasFoam rubber is compound that is 25% lighter and more durable than previous foams. EverTrack carbon rubber in forefoot and heel make for long lasting durability.
Last but not least, strategically placed corrugated flex grooves move with the foot for a more natural movement. These grooves provide optimal flexibility and increases ground contact throughout the swing for improved traction and stability. Puma’s SmartQuill traction technology provides directional grip elements that enhance ground contact for improved stability and traction.

I have been wearing the Puma Faas Lites for a few weeks now. I must say, these are the most comfortable golf shoes I have ever put on my feet right out of the box. They are by far the lightest golf shoe I have ever worn and after 18 holes in them I am ready to go another 18 (body aches and pains aside). Many people have commented on them – the bright orange is hard to miss – although I am all of a sudden associated with the Tennessee Volunteers! I have worn these shoes in both wet and dry conditions and experience no slippage at all. In fact, the soles on these shoes are much like a pair of running shoes I have; the point being that you can wear them anywhere. They stand up to all kinds of weather and can be easily cleaned. I can see these being in my golf wardrobe for years to come.

If you’re looking to spice up your golf wardrobe, you won’t be disappointed by the colors the Faas Lite comes in. Women can choose from two color combinations: White/PUMA Silver/Virtual Pink and Black/White/Virtual Pink in the Faas Lite Women’s and Black/Virtual Pink and White/Brilliant Blue in the Faas Lite Mesh Women’s.

Men have a few more choices when it comes to color combinations. The Faas Lite Mesh is available in Brilliant Blue/Limeade, Vibrant Orange/White and White/Black and the Faas Lite is available in White/Vibrant Orange, White/Black/Brilliant Blue and Black/Castle Rock. All styles come with two laces, one tonal and one pop color for golfers to customize their footwear look.

In the near future, PUMA Golf plans on releasing a limited edition version, the Faas Lite Splatter. The Splatter model was inspired by Rickie Fowler’s ‘Golf Art’ in 2010 and the graphic designs on COBRA Golf’s AMP CELL line of products. The Faas Lite Splatter features paint splatter designs on a white outsole with an orange form stripe.
Price points on these shoes are quite reasonable. The manufacturer’s suggested price of the Faas Lite is $90 for women and $100 for men. The mesh version is set at $80 and $90 respectively while the Faas Splatter will set both genders back $110. For more information, visit www.puma.com/golf.
