After a couple of years of use, my Miura CB-501 irons needed a new set of grips. Since they came from the factory with Pure Grips installed on them, I decided to do a little research and see what was out there. In doing so, I came across a new product being offered by Pure Grips – the DTX model. A quick call to Alvin Cruz at Pure Grips and they were on their way.

pureFor those of you not familiar with Pure Grips, here’s a little background. Pure Grips is 100% American; all products are made at their plant in Arizona from superior materials. The grips are made from a proprietary rubber formula, also designed and developed in the USA. Pure Grips has created an injection mold technology resulting in no seams, consistent wall thicknesses, and tight weight tolerances. Installing Pure Grips requires no adhesive tapes or solvents – instead the grips can be installed quickly for a secure fit using a proprietary custom installer tool and compressed air; the grips are very tacky and durable. Once installed on a steel or graphite shaft, the grip provides optimal stability while the elasticity of the rubber combines with friction to create “rubber memory,” ensuring the grip will not loosen or slip. According to co-founder Michael Smith, Pure Grips will never make a corded grip. That’s because the cord material in a golf grip absorbs sweat and oil from hands and draws into the rubber material. When the oils dry, so does the rubber. This is why buffed corded grips are so notorious for quickly drying and becoming slick, which defeats the purpose of having a cord to avoid a slick grip in the first place.”

Instead, Pure Grips has created the DTX in collaboration with Hank Haney. Haney is active in raising the awareness of PURE grips through its social media channels. The DTX delivers a great simulation of a cord feel by using a combination of contrasting textures. By adding Pure Grip’s seamless molding and rubber technology, this unique combination of rough and tacky texture is great for any golfer looking for a secure connection with the club, including cord players.

If you play without a golf glove, then these grips are for you. Their texture is unique; they provide a rough yet firm surface – nothing spongy here. The diagonal grooves on the grips combined with smooth pockets in between allows for confidence even in wet conditions. You can grip the club light and it will not slip out of your hands. For me, the DTX provides all of the benefits I had with my corded grips without all of the wear and tear on my hands. Pure Grip is consistently recognized for offering optimum feel. Perhaps that’s why these grips are guaranteed for exceptional durability for 12 months from the date of purchase. Pure Grips DTX are available in 9 colors in both standard and midsize. They are available at most golf retailers – both online and brick and mortar. If you have no imagination whatsoever and opt for the black grips, they go for about $5.50 apiece. The colored version will set you back a buck more. For more information on PURE grips, visit them online at www.puregrips.com.
