Boccieri Golf may be better known for their heavy line of clubs – as in the Heavy Driver, Heavy Putter and so on. But part of the success of these clubs is the grip which is now being marketed on its own as The Secret Grip.

The Secret Grip has several huge accomplishments to date. First of all it is endorsed by Jack Nicklaus; that in and of itself is big. Secondly, The Secret Grip has received numerous awards including “Top Products from the PGA Show” by both Golf Digest and Golf Magazine and “Best New Innovation” from Golf Tips Magazine.

The Secret Grip utilizes a technology called “backweighting.” This technology is something that tour players have been using for years. This added weight is in the form of a tungsten weight that is inserted into the butt end of the club as well as a proprietary compound used in making the grips which is 40 percent heavier than that used in standard grips. Backweighting raises the club’s balance point which in turn produces better contact with the ball for greater distance and control. Boccieri’s Research has concluded that backweighting allows golfers to maximize their performance on the golf course.

Some of the other feature/benefits derived from the Secret Grip include a total length that is one-inch longer than standard grips. This allows players to “grip down” for improved play, especially around the green and on uneven lies. The Secret Grip also has built-up lower section – something often preferred by PGA Tour players – which completely removes the need for additional layers of grip tape.

I had the opportunity to install the secret grip on a few of my clubs and I will say I did notice a significant distance in length. I installed one of the original Secret Grips on I driver I built. I paired it with a Graphite Design Tour AD 50 shaft and a Ping G5 head. Let me tell you, I have never hit this club this long before. Better yet, it only took 5 or 6 swings to get used to the backweighting and once I did, I seemed to hit everything straighter and longer. The claims that Jack made in endorsing this club were right on the money. I have put away the other drivers I was using (or thinking of using) and am going to play this backweighted driver for a while.

About Boccieri Golf
Founded in 2005 by Stephen Boccieri, the company’s popular Heavy Putter collection and Control Series line of full-swing products were the first to integrate counterweight principals. This unique approach to club design is proven to benefit golfers of all abilities, as strategically placed weight in the butt-end of the shaft produces a higher balance point for smoother, more repeatable swings from driver through putter. Boccieri Golf’s Secret Grip, endorsed by Jack Nicklaus, is its latest innovation.
