The Waste Management Phoenix Open and Golf Nation

523

If you don’t know about the sideline activities at last week’s party at TPC Scottsdale, you’re living under a rock.  It’s where alcohol-filled merrymakers lined grandstands, in raucous fashion, during the PGA TOUR Waste Management Phoenix Open.

Do you even know, or care, who won the tournament contested among many of the world’s best golfers?  Do you agree with those who posit the mighty Super Bowl took back seat to the out-of-bounds antics at the WMPO?

Now there’s surely no doubt whatsoever that golf is not just a game, but a lifestyle.

That’s precisely what Golf Nation, the new, free, on-demand golf-lifestyle entertainment channel is bringing forth.  And it’s timely for you to watch the 24-minute premiere episode (with more coming) of one of its original series, “Tee Shots” on www.golfnation.com and its app.

Combining adult beverages and a fun, #golforeveryone theme in a drink-responsibly manner, “Tee Shots” features mixologist Bill Bender.  In the opening episode, he hosts Steel Lafferty, the Tiger Woods of wakeboarding.  Between tee shots and sips of spirits, they chat about how Steel is creating his legacy in the sort, his love for family and competition, and how social media became his playground.

Better yet, viewers can buy the drinks the guys are consuming during “Tee Shots” by clicking on a “buy bar” at the bottom of the screen without leaving the streaming experience.  They’re shipped to homes and offices of viewers, often at lightning speed Amazon made famous.

Golf Nation is, after all, differentiated by its shoppable video commerce technology and logistics.  “Buy, watch, play” is fittingly the channel’s mantra, and “Netflix meets Home Shopping Network for golf” is its elevator description.

Brands are lining up to market their wares inside Golf Nation shows.  No longer do viewers need to visit another website to research and buy featured products.  It’s immediate gratification.

Getting back to “Tee Shots,” let’s not forget the thesis that controlled drinking is an important part of recreational golf experiences.  Some golfers believe it loosens inhibitions and makes swings flow naturally.  Others see a beer or two as inherent to socialization.  Then there’s quenching thirsts due to excessive heat and other gifts from Mother Nature.

The urge here is for you to watch “Tee Shots” and other cool programming on Golf Nation’s slate.
