Vokey Design Spin Milled 5 (SM5) – Pinpoint Accuracy

2220

Bob Vokey has been designing high quality, high performance scoring clubs for Titleist for years, taking input from tour professionals As well as golf’s inner circle for years. Since 2004, his world renowned Vokey wedges have received the industry’s highest accolades and are used by more tour professionals than any other wedge on the market. As a matter of fact, Vokey wedges are the most played wedges at any level of competitive golf.

VokeyThis year’s version is the Vokey Design Spin Milled 5 (SM5) and it is helping golfers hit it close and shoot lower scores. These new wedges give players an advantage through the new, deeper TX3 grooves and tour-inspired shapes. These Spin Milled 5 wedges offer the widest selection of bounce and grind options, allowing you to customize the club to fit your swing type and shot technique as well as adapting to all types of playing conditions. Vokey SM5 wedges feature a more compact blade length, a rounder toe profile and balanced shape.

The new, deeper TX3 grooves produce the maximum amount of spin as well as supreme distance and trajectory control. The grooves channel away grass and sand for improved contact between the ball and groove edge. They have a 7-percent larger groove volume and are available in two different configurations. The TX3 grooves are deeper and narrower on the 46-to-54 degree models, producing better distance and trajectory control. This helps to reduce the chance of flyers from the rough. On the loftier wedges, the grooves are deeper which adds more spin.

The new Vokey Design Spin Milled SM5 wedges are cast from 8620 carbon steel, and are available in lofts from 46 degrees to 62 degrees in even-degree increments. They come in six tour-inspired sole grinds (L, T, S, M, F and K), with each model sorted into low, mid and high-bounce categories. This translates to 21 different loft, bounce and grind combinations. The F Grind is bound to be the most popular with golfers who don’t want a plethora of clubs in their garage. According to specs it will best meet the needs of golfers from sliders to diggers on any type of course.

Reading about these wedges is one thing, actually putting them through their paces is another. Not surprisingly, the Titleist Vokey Design Spin Milled SM5 wedge is everything you’d expect. I found the 50˚ F Grind wedge the perfect club for me from about 105 yards. Full shots into the green just hit and stuck while partial shots from both the fairway and rough were easy to spin and I could easily control the trajectory on both. The club just glides through all kinds of turf and sand too.

You can buy/order the Vokey SM5 wedge in one of three new finishes – Tour Chrome, Gold Nickel or Raw Black. Titleist Vokey SM5 wedges are now available at all major golf retailers in both left hand and right hand orientations. Retail is $129.99. My advice is to get one of these in your bag as quick as you can and start shaving a couple of strokes off your game.
