Wilson Staff Duo – Pro V1 Performance at a Fraction of the Price.

2005

What do you get when you cross the longest ball ever made by the Wilson Staff Company with the softest ball on the market? Why the Wilson Staff Duo of course!

will2The Wilson Staff Duo is longer, and softer than the majority of golf balls on today’s market. For Wilson Staff, that can be both a blessing and a curse.

While it is true that one golf ball is not going to appeal to all golfers, Wilson Staff has done a great job in creating a ball for the majority of players. The Wilson Staff Duo is long off the tee and offers a lot more control. At half the compression of the leading competitor’s ball, this two-piece, Ionomer covered ball produces less spin off the driver and offers a very soft feel for shots around the green. The feeling it has off the putter is amazing as well. It’s a very stable ball and holds its line as well as a Titleist Pro V1x.

I had a little apprehension when first asked to test the Wilson Staff Duo. I had just been through a ball fitting with Bridgestone as was prescribed the RX-330. My first reaction to the Duo after hitting a few with my driver was “Wow, maybe the folks at Wilson Staff are on to something here.” I was hitting my driver 10 – 15 yards longer than with the Bridgestone; my 3-wood, hybrids, long and mid-irons were traveling 5 – 12 yards longer too. I found the ball had a lot more feel with my scoring irons (42˚ – 58˚) which lead to better shot placement around the greens. At first the ball seemed a little “mushy” off the putter but after playing with the ball for several rounds, I got used to it.

Another big plus of the Duo is the price; a dozen of these balls at major golf retailers will only set you back around 20 bucks. They are available in both white and optic yellow. I can see why over 80% of golfers who try the Wilson Staff Duo, switch! I know they sure made a believer out of me. If you are looking for a ball that offers soft feel without compromising distance, than you should give the Wilson Staff Duo a try as well.
