Zepp Swing Analyzer – Lots of Data on Every Swing

2091

There are many companies that offer products to help golfers analyze their swing. After all, a better swing produces better shots which should equal lower scores. To date, the best one I have come across – and I’ve tried several – is from a company called Zepp.

zeppZepp may be considered high tech but it’s simple to use. Simply attach it to the Velcro on your glove, open the app on your smartphone and begin swinging. It really is that simple! And, with your new Zepp device you can also use it to track baseball swings or tennis strokes. All you need to do to cross-analyze is go to their website and download each app.

This past January, I stopped by the Zepp booth at the PGA Show in Orlando. My mission was twofold: Meet Patrick Shea, the guy in many of their videos with the Loudmouth Golf pants on, and pick up a charging cord that was left out of my original package. Patrick is not only the VP of Marketing for Zepp, he’s also a PGA Instructor (wonder if he stayed at a Holiday Inn Express). Part one of the journey was quickly completed as Patrick was at the booth. He suggested we charge the unit and then he would run through how to best use it.
I returned 20 minutes later and the unit was fully charged. We headed to their hitting booth and after 15 minutes with the Zepp Analyzer and Patrick, I was hitting the ball solid. He made a few suggestions of things to work on and I was on my way.

I’ve been fooling around with this swing analyzer ever since and I have been nothing short of amazed. It’s easy to use, easy to set up and gives you all the information you need. Simply download the app through your smartphone and go through the set up and profile modes and be sure to set up your swing goals.

Unlike swing analyzers that attach to the shaft of your club and don’t seem to capture all of the swings you take, Zepp clips on your glove. Once you have the unit in place, the next step is to calibrate it with your club which takes all of 3 seconds. Once that’s complete, just swing away. You can review after each shot or after as many as you like.

The feedback you get from the Zepp unit is pretty much instantaneous. And, you can garner all kinds of information from each shot. Zepp offers an incredible set of 3D and video analysis features that give you instant feedback. You can even compare your swing to the pros. For me, it was getting my hands and club on plane. Patrick and I had discussed this at the PGA show when he gave me a couple of things to work on. By analyzing these points and making the necessary swing changes to correct them, I have been able to hit more fairways off the tee and greens in regulation.

Now I am working on increasing my club speed. After all, if you can add 5 MPH to your driver’s swing, you’ll increase your distance about 20 yards off the tee. And by using the swing analytics dashboard on the app, you can track what’s changing on each swing and easily identify what you need to work on. This makes the driving range a source of game-changing insights and improvements. You can even video tape your swing and send it to your club pro for analysis.

Each month, I receive a report from Zepp that analyzes all of my swings over that 30-day period and gives me feedback on things like club speed, hand and club plane, backswing position, hip rotation and tempo. All of these features can be seen in conjunction with a 3D view of each swing and automatically overlaid against an ideal swing. As a matter of fact, if you take 30 swings a week, Zepp will crunch 90,000 data points and deliver a detailed, personalized reports on what you’re doing best, what to focus on, and suggest tips and drills to help improve.

If you’re into golf, I mean seriously into golf and have tried other products to analyze your swing, you should give Zepp a try. It’s easy to use, simple to set up and works like a charm. For more information on the Zepp swing analyzer or to order one for yourself, go to their website at www.zepp.com and choose your sport.
